PERU

Since 2016, AIM has worked in Piura, Peru to advance clinical training through donations of ultrasound and laparoscopic equipment, and on-site training of surgeons and anesthesiologists.  Having met with local and national leaders, we created an educational curriculum based on the needs of the patients in the area’s major public hospitals.

After three years, we were able to report a number of significant outcomes, some of which were presented at the 2019 Yale’s Global Health and Innovation Conference, and the 2020 Anesthesia and Analgesia International Meeting’s Global Health section.

93% success rate in regional anesthesia, providing comprehensive pain relief for as little as $1.25 a day to patients in hospitals where access to opioids is extremely limited.

90% reduction in the tracheostomy rate for major trauma victims due to our donation and training in video laryngoscopes.

50% increase in laparoscopic gallbladder removals, leading to substantially decreased hospital stays, healthcare costs, and earlier return to work.
